Lamborghini has decided to breathe new life into the iconic Countach with the new one LPI 800-4. The sports car that the car manufacturer del Toro has decided to build on the basis of the Sian has generated mixed reactions even among the experts: one of those who did not spare himself from advancing some criticisms of the car was Frank Stephenson, former prominent designer who in his professional career has worked for automotive brands such as BMW, Mini, Ferrari, Maserati, Fiat, Lancia, Alfa Romeo and McLaren.
The criticisms raised by the internationally renowned former designer start from the front of the new LPI 800-4: Stephenson does not despise the black horizontal slot, which indeed enhances, but criticizes the design of the headlights. Given current regulations, the pop-up headlights that the former designer would have installed could not be fitted, but Stephenson would have gone to great lengths to present a more angular set of lighting units. Moving on to the side profiles of the sports car, according to him the air intake should have been more conventional and more similar to that of the original Countach. But that’s not all: Stephenson would have added too an active rear wing, created narrower wheel arches and a reduced front overhang, and placed quad tailpipes where the taillights currently are, with the latter being replaced by an LED light bar. In short, the former designer would have applied many changes: and probably, he is not the only one.
