Lucifer launched its sixth and final season in Netflix on September 10 to close the story of ‘Morning Star’, played by Tom Ellis. To the surprise of many, there was not a happy ending in its entirety but one with nuances that gave the characters more depth.
As we saw in the last chapter, the daughter of Lucifer and Chloe from the future, Rory, leaves behind her thirst for revenge for the abandonment of her father when she discovers that he had to leave the family to exercise his new position in heaven.
When she returns to her timeline, she holds her mother’s hand in hope of seeing the family reunited on the “other side.” Certainly an overwhelming ending, but one that divided several fans who expected a more positive and happy ending.
Faced with the controversy unleashed on social networks, co-showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson had an interview with TV Guide to explain why a bittersweet farewell was the most appropriate for the story that began five years ago:

“Lucifer really realizes that we choose our path and that becomes our destiny. I guess the same can be said for our participation in the show. Strange things happened along the way, but I feel like each mishap has been something really great in the end. And this has taken the program in a direction that perhaps it would not have gone. “
