THE private tests on 31 August and 1 September in Misano Adriatico, in addition to Maverick Vinales (Aprilia), also the test drivers of the factory manufacturers, Dani Pedrosa (KTM), Mika Kallio (KTM), Stefan Bradl (Honda), Michele Pirro (Ducati). Next to them there are some riders, on the track, however, with road bikes, as per regulations. So ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia, Johann Zarco, Luca Marini and Enea Bastianini rode on the Panigale strada, but with them there was also Franco Morbidelli, riding a Yamaha R1.
The presence of the Italian rider, two months after the knee surgery that caused him to miss four world championship appointments, is considering whether to return 12 September in Aragon or seven days later in Misano. His choice will also depend on Andrea Dovizioso’s debut – in the most classic of domino effects – in the Petronas team. In fact, it has already been made official that Morbidelli will make his return to the track in the official Yamaha team, riding a 2021 M1, to try to help the team win the triple world championship crown (riders, teams and manufacturers). His current crew chief – Ramon Forcada – will remain in Petronas, however, and ‘Morbido’ will have to make use of Maverick Vinales’ team.
