The Fuerza del Norte Transporters Confederation will remain mobilized -indefinitely-, after rejecting the Government’s proposal that it sought end unemployment. The document proposed, among other points, the establishment of 12 safe rest areas between Santiago and Arica, and an injection of 1,500 million dollars to the Fuel Price Stabilization Mechanism (Mepco).
The truckers of the Confederation of Transporters “Fuerza del Norte”, will remain mobilized, after failing to reach an agreement in the meeting they held with the presidential delegate of Arica and Parinacota, Ricardo Sanzana, and the chief from the Internal Government Division of the Ministry of the Interior, Enrique Inostroza.
The meeting sought to bring positions closer to the petition of the carriers, who are seeking greater security after denouncing an “uncontrolled and unpunished increase in assaults, robberies and looting of transported loads”, in addition to stopping the price increase of fuels.
The Government offered the installation of 12 rest areas, with lighting, fences and police presence, between Santiago and Arica, in addition to another for Route 1 and for Route A 25 that connects to Calama.
