The Lotus Emira replaces not one, not two, but three existing models. The British manufacturer sees this new sports car as the successor to the Elise, the Exige and the Evora. But it is the Lotus Esprit that served as a source of inspiration, because Hethel sees the Emira as a direct competitor for both the Porsche 718 and the Porsche 911.
It will not be a Spartan track boy, but a GT that can be used daily, which combines a lot of driving pleasure with a dash of comfort. For this, the Lotus Emira counts on the brand new Elemental architecture, although it is actually a considerably revised Evora platform. You will also notice this in the compact dimensions: 4,412 mm long, 1,985 mm wide and 1,255 mm high. Nice to know: the Lotus Emira retains a hydraulic steering system.
AMG power
Don’t look for a hybrid or an electric drive, the Emira will be the last Lotus with a classic combustion engine between the rear wheels. However, the body design has much in common with that of the 100% electric Evija. You have the choice between two engines: a new 2 liter turbo petrol of AMG origin and the familiar 3.5 liter V6 with compressor, made by Toyota. The British sports car maker will keep the specifications and performance of the Lotus Emira to itself for a while.
The Lotus Emira is offered with two chassis configurations: the softer Tour and the tighter Sport, which is offered with the optional Lotus Driver’s Pack that adds launch control and Michelin Spot Cup 2 rubber (instead of the standard Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport). The weight is 1,405 kilograms.
