A study published Monday in the journal Nature Medicine revealed that a blind patient partially regained his sight after receiving directed light treatment and gene therapy.

According to the aforementioned study, the patient – diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa – was injected with a viral vector into the eye that encodes light and then used glasses that transform the images into light impulses, which enter the modified retina.
