After the real risk of having to witness a cancellation or a postponement of the qualifications valid for the Russian Grand Prix, the session was finally held regularly this afternoon with the cessation of rainfall. A shift that did not particularly smile at motorized single-seaters Honda, Red Bull and AlphaTauri, both protagonists of unsatisfactory results.

The same Japanese manufacturer summed up the qualifying session that took place on the Sochi circuit, where Sergio Perez imposed himself as the best of this small group of drivers with the ninth place conquered for tomorrow’s grid: “After the cancellation of PL3 due to bad weather – reads the press release from Honda – the tests began in wet conditions. The track, which then dried during the session, made it difficult, teams and drivers, to find the right moment to switch to slick tires, given that in some places the track was still slippery in Q3 ″.

After the technical evaluation, the manufacturer who supplies the power units to the two teams already mentioned has continued with his analysis, this time focusing on mere placings: “It wasn’t the best result for the Honda riders today – commented Toyuharu Tanabe, project manager F1 – Perez ranked highest of all with ninth place, while Gasly and Tsunoda they failed to enter Q3, finishing 12th and 13th respectively. With regard to Verstappen, there was no reason to take risks, as he was already aware of the fact that he was starting from the back of the grid due to the replacement of the power unit. Now – he concluded – we will prepare to do our best for what promises to be a dry race, with the intention of taking all four of our drivers as high as possible, also exploiting the potential of their respective cars ”.
