Gay priest Lars Gårdfeldt protests the church’s policy that priests may refuse to marry gays for marriage.
Gothenburger priest Lars Gårdfeldt has stated that he no longer agrees to marry heterosexuals, says Dagens Nyheter magazine.
With his announcement, Gårdfeldt protested the Swedish Church’s policy that priests may not consecrate gay couples for reasons of conscience.
He says he has become particularly archbishop Antje Jackelénin about a recent radio appearance in which Jackelén said it is impossible to require all priests to agree to the marriage of gay couples.

Gårdfeldt told DN that he really intends to keep his promise not to marry heterosexual couples. He wants them to be married by heterosexuals who refuse to marry gay couples.
The issue of the marriage of gay couples has come up in the debate partly because of the church elections being held in Sweden next Sunday. Many church politicians have supported the idea that all new priests should be reassured that they agree to marry gay couples.
In 2009, the Swedish Ecclesiastical Assembly decided by votes 176–62 to allow the ordination of gay unions in churches.
Gothenburger Lars Gårdfield, 56, is a well-known defender of sexual minorities in Sweden. He’s gay himself. He has also been married to a same-sex spouse in the Church, in addition to being the father of two children.
Gårdfield has also defended his doctorate in theology. His his dissertation asked in name: Does God hate gays?
