The new evidence on which Aston Martin counted were not enough to make the Commissioners retrace their steps regarding the decision to oust Sebastian Vettel from the arrival order of the Hungarian Grand Prix. The FIA delegates on Sunday 1 August managed to extract just 300 milliliters of petrol from the AMR21 # 5 against the liter required by the regulation, hence the disqualification. Lawrence Stroll’s proprietary team tried to highlight an alleged failure which meant that the commissioners were unable to extract the required liter from the tank, but the significant new elements in the eyes of Otmar Szafnauer, Andrew Green and Andy Stevenson were not the same for the Stewards who today discussed with the high command of Aston Martin the request by the former Racing Point to exercise the right of review against the disqualification of Vettel.
This attempt failed, but Otmar Szafnauer and Aston Martin do not give up: “We felt that the evidence we presented was relevant and that it would have shown the FIA that Sebastian Vettel should have been reinstated in the order of arrival of the Grand Award of Hungary after his disqualification – the words of the team manager accompanying the official note through which Aston Martin registered the today’s no from the Federation – unfortunately, the FIA had a different vision and, despite the fact that the accuracy of our new evidence has not been contested, Sebastian’s disqualification was confirmed on the grounds that the new evidence was not considered ‘relevant’. This is disappointing, we will now consider our position regarding the possibility of having recourse to the full appeal process ”.
