The teenager Danish Holger Rune celebrates after beating Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas in four sets in the fourth round of the French Open.
Teenager Holger Rune caused an upset on Monday by eliminating in the fourth round of the French Open to the runner-up of the 2021 edition of the tournament and current fourth seed.
In his debut at Roland Garros, Rune, a 19-year-old Dane, doubled. 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 against Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas on Court Philippe Chatrier.
Rune, 40th in the world ranking, had never won a Grand Slam match until last week, arriving in France 0-2 in previous appearances at tennis’ four major tournaments.

Tsitsipas is the first of the top eight seeds to be eliminated from the men’s draw.
The Dane now joins sixth-seeded Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz to make this the first Grand Slam with two teenagers in the men’s quarterfinals since Hendrik Dreekmann and Andrei Medvedev at the 1994 French Open. .
Rune had some trouble securing the win against Tsitsipas after leading 5-2 in the fourth set. The teenager lost nine points in a row and his lead was cut to 5-4. He then he needed & gué; save three break points before achieving the biggest victory of his career.
Rune will face & á; to Casper Ruud, who for the part of him avanz & oacute; to the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career by beating Hubert Hurkacz 6-2, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
Ruud, seeded eighth, is the first Norwegian man to reach the round of best eight at the French Open.
In the women’s division, Daria Kasatkina tied the her best performance in a major by reaching the French Open quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Italy’s Camila Giorgi.
Kasatkina, 20th seed series, salv & gué; a break point when she was serving for the match and secured it & oacute; with successive unforced errors by Giorgi.
The 25-year-old Russian will face another. in the next round against her compatriot Veronika Kudermetova. She reached the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time by defeating the American Madison Keys 1-6, 6-3, 6-1.
