With three days to go to finish the European cycling race in its 105th edition, Richard Carapaz is champion beating Jai Hindley and Mikel Landa on the podium

The 19th stage of the Giro d’Italia 2022 will be held from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. m. Colombian time on Friday, May 27. This section includes a 178-kilometre semi-elevated route between the towns of Marano Lagunare and Santuario di Castelmonte with a slope of 3,230 meters.

< b>The 105th edition of the race thought the end of the competition with three mountain stages, one medium mountain, another flat and an individual time trial final in Verona. However, this Friday’s session will present an altimetry designed as follows with four mountain passes:

The beetles will start the race going up slightly, going through a special sprint located at kilometer 55.8 (Buja). After this high-speed pass, the climbers will climb a third category mountain pass located at kilometer 74.9, (Villanova Grotte) to connect with a 3.7-kilometer ascent. with a slope of 8% and 641 meters above sea level.

Followed by the first pass, there are eight kilometers of descent until approaching the ascent to the second third-category mountain pass of the stage located at kilometer 94.3 (Passo Di Tanamea) with 10 kilometers of ascent and a drop of 5.4% at 870 meters above sea level.

Then, the beetles will face 28 kilometers of descent in which they will manage to pass through Slovenian soil. So things begin the climb to the hardest phase of the day. It is a first-class mountain pass located at kilometer 134.6 (Kolovrat), which also has 10.3 kilometers of ascent with a marked drop of 9.2%.

After passing through this port and crossing the top, there will be 20 kilometers of descent. in the km. 168.4 will be located the hot spot of the stage (Cividale del Friuli), which has a bonus for the first three runners who go through it, to finally find the ascent to the last mountain pass (second category) located at the finish line with a total of 7.1 kilometers of ascent.

Before crossing the finish line there will be two kilometers there will be a steep slope at 3.1%, followed by three kilometers of descent until in the last 1,000 meters the cyclists encounter an incline climb with a slope of 4% to end in a slight slope.

This is a mountainous stage that presents the question of whether there will be a battle for the general classification, which is currently led by Ecuadorian rider Richard Carapaz.

Given the profile of this section, on paper , the favorites to win the stage are the riders, the Englishman Simon Yates (Team BikeExchange-Jayco), the Colombian Iván Ramiro Sosa (Movistar Team), the Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz (Ineos Grenadiers) or the Spanish Mikel Landa (Bahrain Victorious).

At the moment, the leader of the race in the general classification is the Carchi Locomotive, Richard Carapaz (Ineos Grenadiers), with a time of 76 hours, 41 minutes and 15 seconds. Below López on the podium -3 seconds apart- Jai Hindley, (Australian from Bora-Hansgrohe) and -1 minute and 5 seconds away- Mikel Landa ( Spanish of Team Bahrain Victorious), respectively.

Gaviria finishes ninth in the final flat stage of the Giro d’Italia

Fernando Gaviria was the best Colombian in stage 18 of the Giro d’Italia. He was surprised by a breakaway of four runners among whom the winner ended. Santiago Buitrago moved up two places overall and is now twelfth.

Thursday was a day of transition, after going through the hills at the beginning of the last week on the road. There were 156 flat kilometers from Borgo Valsugana to Treviso with a breakaway of four riders within three minutes of each other without danger for the leaders of the general classification.

In the penultimate passage through the finish line in the circuit, the main group with the Colombians went through the breakaways with an advantage of 56 seconds to place their packers to the final stretch. Fernando Gaviria’s UAE Team was one of the teams that drove that capture at a speed of 50 kilometers per hour.

They weren’t enough. The definition was for the four forwards. Dries De Bondt won in photo finish and the Antioquian arrived in the batch of sprinters, ninth at 14 seconds.
