An American citizen of Haitian descent, suspected of participating in the assassination attempt on Haitian President Jovenel Moise, was previously an informant for the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). On Thursday last week, Haitian authorities arrested two Americans, Joseph Vincent, 55, and James Solages, 35, and accused them of participating in a deadly attack on the Haitian leader.
At the same time, the agency’s interlocutor refused to name which of the two men was the DEA informant.
“These people did not act on behalf of the DEA,” the source said, adding that the suspect was not an active informant at the time of Moise’s murder.

The third American, Christian Emmanuel Sanon, was arrested on Sunday and is suspected of organizing the assassination attempt.
Earlier on Monday, State Department spokesman Ned Price said that the United States is aware of the detention of three American citizens in Haiti as part of the investigation into the murder of the country’s President Jovenel Moise. He added that consular support will be provided to all the Americans detained.
On July 8, Haitian Police Chief Leon Charles said that among the six people detained in the murder of the country’s president, there is an American of Haitian origin, James Solage. Another of the detainees may also be Haitian American, he said. However, Washington did not confirm this information. In addition, then Price said that the United States categorically denies any involvement in the assassination of the president of the island state.
The President of Haiti, who has led the state since 2017, was fatally wounded in an attack on his residence on the night of July 7. At the same time, his wife was seriously injured. She was hospitalized.
