The jury of the court of Fairfaix (Virginia, USA) declared this Wednesday the actress Amber Heard responsible for defaming the actor Johnny Depp in the opinion column that she published in the newspaper The Washington Post in 2018, although it also considered that he once defamed her.
In their unanimous deliberation, the seven-person jury decided that Heard must pay Depp $15 million, while he must pay her $2 million.

These verdicts ended a televised trial that Depp hoped would help restore his reputation, though it became the spectacle of a flawed marriage. According to the jury, three sentences written by Heard in a column published in 2018 by the newspaper The Washington Post defamed Depp, although also the actor defamed his ex-wife on one occasion.
In the first sentence, the actress claimed to “speak against sexual violence”, in the second she said “represent domestic abuse and suffer anger against the women who speak”, while in the third he argued that “institutions protected men accused of abuse”.
The jury, which took more than three days to deliberate, considered that these three statements were false and were written with the aim of defaming the famous actor, despite the fact that the column did not mention Depp at any time.< /p>
The actor asked his former partner for 50 million dollars in damages, although finally the actress will have to pay 15 million in compensation.
