The national referee Piero Maza was one of the main targets targeted by the Spanish press after the loss of Real Betis against Colo Colo, that sealed the discreet passage of the béticos through South America, with three defeats and 10 goals conceded.
One of the most severe media in their evaluation was Onda Bética, where they pointed to the development of the play that ended in the Cacique’s goal, since in its genesisthere was an infraction against Juan Miranda that was not noticed by the referee.
In this regard, they indicated that in the 75′ “Juan Miranda was going to be overwhelmed, and the Colo Colo with Piero Maza as puppeteer, was going to score the first on a long shot from Gil, by not forgiving the foul of a player in the Verdiblancos field”.
But they did not stop there and assured that after sending off a Miranda “fed up with kicks and slaps (…). Piero Maza was going to continue with his pursuit, and the goal it was Manuel Pellegrini now, who after politely protesting some erroneous plays by the home referee, took the red card”.
From El DesmarqueMeanwhile, they pointed out that “this Saturday, Colo Colo once again prevailed over the Verdiblancos in a very difficult game, with many fouls and misdirected by referee Piero Maza, who ended up expelling a player from each team and the two coaches”.
Regarding the albos’ score, they detailed that “Miranda was the object of a foul that Piero Maza ignored.Colo Colo served with the man from Olivarez off the field of play and Lucero left it free for Gil so that, from the edge of the area, he could put the ball where Rui Silva couldn’t reach it”.
< br>Of course, from the aforementioned media they were not indifferent to the development of the South American tour and emphasized that the Sevillian team “has been surpassed by the intensity of two of the emblematic teams from Argentina and Chile, where they fill the fields for friendlies and they never downplay any match in which they wear the shields on their chests”.
In the same vein, Estadio Deportivo maintained that “Betis returns empty, without goals or wins, and added their third defeat in the three games on the tour, almost ended in blows and also lost troops due to injury. Juan Cruz left crying and Álex Moreno with gestures of annoyance. Worse impossible”.
On the other hand, they qualified “Engineer” with a 5, arguing that “his team has not come up with anything on the tour, he has accumulated a balance of 10-0 in three games, he comes back with several hits and, to top it off, he was sent off”.
