Formula 1 is ready to return to the track for the Belgian Grand Prix, on that circuit in Spa-Francorchamps which, for two years now, has preserved the pain and memory for the disappearance of Anthoine Hubert. It was August 31, 2019 when, during the test valid for the Formula 2 world championship, a terrible accident at the Raidillon corner ended the life of the young French driver, who died at the age of 22 from serious injuries.
He was also involved in that frightening impact Juan Manuel Correa, an American with Ecuadorian citizenship who ended up in a coma following the crash. After a long and delicate rehabilitation, marked by 25 surgeries also aimed at averting the risk of having his right foot amputated, the unfortunate driver returned to racing this year in Formula 3. Today, two years after that accident, Correa he is ready to make his return to that Spa-Francorchamps where his life has changed forever.
The American, interviewed by racer.com, wanted to leave a comment in view of an emotionally complex and unique return: “After what happened there is something special that will never make it a race like any other – explained Correa – Fr.I will be holding Anthoine in my heart all weekend, and I know it will be very exciting. But life is like this, and I have been preparing this return for a long time. I feel ready ”.
In that race there was another Hubert competitor like Mick Schumacher, today spent in Formula 1 at the wheel of the Haas. The German, interviewed by racingnews365.com, wanted to remember the one who, in that 2019, fought with Michael’s son of art for the conquest of the title: “Spa has also been the site of some very difficult moments, and one of which concerns the accident that happened to Anthoine. Every time I arrive there, I keep his memory in my heart ”.

A touching memory could not be missing even from a friend of the French driver like Charles Leclerc, who the day after the disappearance of the Arden International standard bearer obtained his first victory in F1 on the Belgian track: “I always have a lot of emotions when I come back to Spa – we read in a tweet published on the official profile of the Monegasque – a place where I got my first F1 victory, but where I also lost a great friend. I think of you”.
Always have so many emotions when I come back to Spa. A place where I got my first win in F1 but also where I lost a good friend. Thinking about you @AnthoineH ❤️ pic.twitter.com/PNv47JtVnY

Even more exciting, finally, the homage of another rider who shared a friendship with Hubert, and who responds to the name of his compatriot. Pierre Gasly: the AlphaTauri pilot, again via a tweet, went to the crash site where the unfortunate colleague lost his life, placing a bouquet of flowers: “I am for you my friend. I miss you”.
For you my friend. 🙏🏼❤️
