A Mercedes Benz driver was caught driving on Route 5 South with a logo that does not belong to the German firm. On the rear door, the “meche” had the Nissan brand attached. It would be a security measure that is added to other similar ones, they assure from Automóvil Club Chile.

Between January and October of this year, car thefts amounted to 13,962, 67% more than in the same period in 2021, according to figures from the Association of Insurers From Chile. A worrying reality that would have led drivers to take their own precautions.

Such is the case of the Mercedes Benz GLC 220DCaptured driving along Ruta 5 Sur, near Rancagua, O’Higgins region, with a Nissan brand logo on the back. An alleged anti-gate measure revealed the person who recorded the route of the high-end vehicle and uploaded it to his Twitter account.

For Alberto Escobar, manager of Automóvil Club Chile , this would be one more security measure to those already adopted by vehicle owners.

In dialogue with BioBioChile, Escobar stated that “motorists seek to remain unnoticed. I’ve seen people cover the logos of high-end cars; they cover the rings to the Audi, the star to the Mercedes Benz and the logo of the BMW”.

“I’ve also seen people paint license plates on the roofs of cars. People who avoid going out at night and visiting certain places. People who are definitely changing their routine,” she added.

For the Manager of Automóvil Club Chile, these measures adopted by drivers respond to a feeling of abandonment that exists among motorists. “According to figures we handle, from a study that we intend to reveal its results next week, 8 out of 10 drivers, their main fear is being mugged on the road“, he said.
