Let Go , broke records, placing as the best-selling album in the 21st century by a Canadian artist. For this reason Avril Lavigne became an icon that to date continues to mark the new generations of musicians. With this album, he obtained seven platinum records and a Grammy nomination, so that in that year, the wave of pop punk and that known as “emo” was just beginning without imagining that they laid the foundations for a revolution in the music industry.

Lavigne came to impose fashion and above all to open the musical gap of new opportunities for women who decided to follow their hearts and dedicate their lives to a rock band. The blonde is remembered for her grunge, punk and skater aesthetics, in addition to the rebellious attitude that characterized her. In that time, see the video on MTV where a girl appeared dressed in a black tank top, wearing black Dickies sneakers and a very loose red plaid tie , it was like a revelation for the female gender, because not all women had to follow the stereotypes imposed by the society of the year 2000. This ideology was very important because the molds were broken little by little.

Avril Lavigne rose as a symbol of liberation and a figure to follow, no more taboos on how to dress, no more difference between good and bad, but above all she gave voice to the teenagers who didn’t want generic music anymore. That attitude of a woman taking the role of rock star seriously is what inspired new ways to express herself through music.
