This Tuesday, May 31, the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) revealed that unemployment in Colombia stood at 11.2% in April, thus representing a reduction of 4.3 percentage points if compared to the same period in 2021 (15.5%).

The trend It was also favorable when compared to March last, since there was a recovery in the labor market of almost one percentage point (12.1%). “In the month of April 2022 we are observing a growth in the employed population that corresponds to the creation of almost 2.2 million jobs. And approximately 52% of these jobs were in the country’s 13 main cities,” said the director of DANE, Juan Daniel Oviedo, during the presentation of the results.

DANE revealed that unemployment was 11.2% in April 2022 (Colombia).

In the decrease of 4.3% of unemployment, Bogotá was the city that contributed the most with 1.5 percentage points, “followed by the small municipalities of the country and Medellín” , pointed out Oviedo, who remarked that the results of April have been “the best” since the process began.economic reactivation in the country: “The number of unemployed reaches a minimum value in recent history, which corresponds to 2.76 million people unemployed.”

The gender gap was also reduced, understanding that for every two men who got their jobs back, three women presented the same case. But if jobs are segmented by sex, men still have a lower unemployment ratethan women: the first group obtained 8.9%, while the second, 14.2%. The margin is 5.3 points.

Additionally, the director of the agency indicated that only 29.1% of the employed population had technical training, technological, university or postgraduate.

In this sense, the 13 cities and metropolitan areas contributed 5.9 percentage points to the national variation.

The president of the National Federation of Merchants (Fenalco), Jaime Alberto Cabal, expressed his satisfaction after knowing these figures, since, according to him, they show a recovery of the economy at the national level. “The organized trade of the country has been resuming the more than 900,000 jobs that were lost during the pandemic, and we believe that in the rest of the year they can be generated< b> even more new jobs”, he pointed out in statements collected by La República.

At the national level, the unemployed population < /b>In April 2022 it fell by 860 thousand people compared to the same month in 2021, reflecting a variation of -23.8%.This is reflected in 2.8 million unemployed. In the 13 cities and metropolitan areas, the total number of unemployed was 1.3 million, representing a decrease of 33.6%.

Speaking of the branches of activity, the artists were the ones who recovered the largest number of jobs (359,000 jobs), followed by the commercial area and repair of vehicles (335,000), and transport and storage (303,000). Further down the ladder appears the manufacturing industry (301,000), accommodation and food services (238,000) and agriculture (172,000).

The cities that presented the highest unemployment rates between February and April 2022 were Quibdó (21.9%), Valledupar (16.1% ), Ibagué (15.1%) and Florence (14.7%). Meanwhile, those with the lowest figures were Bucaramanga (9.2%), Villavicencio (10.6%), Armenia (10 .6%) and Cartagena (10.9%).
