The road to being a coach began at age 14. Nicolás Casalánguida says that while the interest of the rest of the boys was focused on playing basketball, he began to outline his training as a coach, so he studied to be a Physical Education teacher and at the same time he trained at the Cordoba Association of Basketball Technicians (Acoteba ).

He refers that at the age of 23 he had already concluded his career and dedicated himself full time to be able to be trained in chief and at the age of 28 the first opportunity came, with the Comodoro Gymnastics and Fencing team , his career continued in the following clubs: Regatas Corrientes, Obras Sanitarias Club, Atenas Sports Association and now with Aguacateros de Michoacán, in the National Professional Basketball League (LNBP).

“I was always a bit young for the profession, but I always had that side from a very young age to take the position of coach,” says Nicolás Casalánguida, for Infobae Mexico . The taste is for what it means to lead work teams, to project a common goal and to work to achieve it.

He points out: “ What makes me passionate about basketball is working with people and leading, sports management and, having a competitive mentality, I am enthusiastic about improving with strategic planning […] I consider myself a person who seeks to learn permanently, who enjoys passionately the work that he does every day and I feel that I am still on a path of continuous learning and in that way I seek permanent evolution ”.

He accumulates 13 seasons directing and in his first year he was recognized with the distinction of Coach of the Year in the National Basketball League , in the 2008-2009 season and the second was obtained in the 2013-2014 season. In addition, he was champion in the 2012-2013 season with the Regatas Corrientes quintet.

Nicolás, 41, comments on this distinction that it was something very special, because in Argentina, voting is done between coaches, “we have that peculiarity that the colleagues themselves choose the coach for the year and that is a vote of great confidence, of much study. For me it has been very special ”.

What do you consider to be the fundamental stage in your development as a coach? The native of Comodoro Rivadavia, Argentina, indicates that the fundamental stage is that of study, continually seeking to increase knowledge and training.

In addition, one person tried to emulate the best coaches, took special interest in the details, which he was able to work with, and comments that working for six to seven years also allowed him to work with the best coaches.

Before taking the position of head coach, he made a trip to Europe and the United States, in order to know certain aspects and exemplifies that “ a trip to Serbia for a month trying to deepen the development of young people , that the Balkan school is very good that aspect ”.

The work with Aguacateros de Michoacán

He accumulates his second season with the team and decided to come to Mexico, because it was the Mexican basketball player Gustavo Ayón who sought him out to fill the position of coach in the Michoacan organization. Another important point was that they allowed him to build the team from scratch, with a budget limit. It was in July 2019 that his arrival at the organization was announced.

In his first season, he reached the West Zone Finals in the LNBP. ” Last season served as a platform for us to reach the zone final and this year we already started the season much more solid and here we are in the final “, describes the coach of the representative of Michoacán, an organization that joined the league in the 2017.

While the 2020 regular phase, the Aguacateros finished as the second best team in the West Zone , with a record of 13-5, the same place they occupied in relation to the average of points per game, with 91.67 and was the second organization that fewer points allowed, with 87.39.

The Aguacateros were about to have the possibility of not competing this season, it was seven weeks that their participation was in doubt.

Nicolás comments on the work done in the organization is daily work, “for me, philosophy is the everyday, the search for daily excellence, every day trying to improve something and trying that the team has a line, a philosophy, a style of play , facing each game and each day of work as a very important possibility, so we progressively built ”.

The squad that has at least six players under their command were in the organization last season and has an average age of 30.6 years.
