A two sprint decided the race, no podium for the blues. The father of the British Zoe is Magnus, king of Roubaix 2004. In the afternoon the elite women, tomorrow the highlight with the professionals
The British Zoe Backstedt, already silver in the time trial, won the gold medal in the women’s category jr at the World Cycling Championships in Belgium. His is a famous surname in cycling: his father Magnus, Swedish, had also raced with Liquigas and in 2004, in the Alessio jersey, he won the Paris-Roubaix. Backstedt won the title by beating the American Kaia Schmidt in a sprint. For the bronze, the German Riedmann set the first pursuers. As for the blue of Dino Salvoldi, the best was Eleonora Ciabocco who finished in ninth place.
PROGRAM

The world championship – the third hosted by Belgium in the last 45 years, after Renaix 1988 and Zolder 2002 – continues this afternoon with the elite women: Italy focuses on Longo Borghini, Balsamo and Bastianelli. Sunday the highlight with the elite, 268 kilometers from Antwerp to Leuven and Italy in search of the title that has been missing for 13 years, from Ballan 2008 to Varese. On the blue flagship, for the last time as a coach, Davide Cassani: at the start Ballerini, Bagioli, Colbrelli, Moscon, Trentin, Ulissi, Nizzolo and De Marchi. So far Italy has won 3 medals: 2 golds (Ganna in the elite time trial, Baroncini in the elite Under 23 test), and a bronze (mixed chronograph). The Belgian Wout van Aert is the big favorite, but the Azzurri bode well.
