Three years after the signing of the Peace Agreement and New Constitution, the representatives of the main political forces in the country agree on the need to continue with the constitutional process but without neglecting the other problems of Chileans: delinquency, health and pensions.

On the threshold of the third anniversary of the signing of the Agreement for Peace and New Constitution, the representatives of the country’s main political forces commented to Radio Bío Bío on the need to continue the process because the idea continues “fully in force”.

From the Independent Democratic Union (UDI), Senator Juan Antonio Coloma, one of the protagonists of the signing of the Agreement, valued having tried to solve the social crisis of October 2019 with “more democracy”.

“The Agreement of November 15 was very important. I think that in the end the reflection remains that at a time when our democracy was in danger, it was resolved with a process that included more democracy, and that was what finally culminated on September 4 last&#8221 ;, commented.

Meanwhile, the then president of the Party for Democracy (PPD), Heraldo Muñoz, described the agreement as a “historical milestone” and commented that, after the victory of the rejection, the new process should be carried out under other conditions. .

“A historical milestone that channeled the social explosion towards a peaceful constituent process that still endures. Citizens agreed in the entry plebiscite to give themselves a new Constitution. Now, the new process takes place in different circumstances after the defeat of the constitutional text & # 8221 ;, he reflected.

For his part, the former helmsman of National Renewal (RN), Mario Desbordes, was in favor of the current negotiations on the constitutional process, however, pointed out that it was a mistake to ignore the other needs of Chileans.

“We have to advance, in parallel, in this constituent agreement and in the search for solutions to the issues of crime, pensions and health, if not, people are rightly complaining that he sees politicians very focused only on the constituent issue, and that is a tremendous mistake that the Government has made”, he concluded.

Most political coalitions They continue to work to set the boundaries of the new constitutional process, however, the negotiating table continues without reaching definitive agreements.
