The 2022 World Championship will go down in history as one of the most drastic in terms of regulatory changes compared to the previous season. With a design of the cars that will lead to an enlargement of the tires and brake discs, the single-seaters will inevitably increase in weight, to the point that the FIA has imposed a minimum weight limit equivalent to 790 kg. In this way, compared to the current championship, there will be an increase on the “scale” of 38 kg. Yet, despite all these changes mainly due to the numerous introductions in the new technical regulation, the minimum weight threshold could undergo further adjustments in view of the 2022 world championship.
In fact, Alfa Romeo’s technical director confirmed this hypothesis Jan Monchaux, who thus explained to racefans.net a particular request made by several teams on this very issue: “We believe that a couple of kilos more – has explained – they can certainly help for too reduce costs. It is one thing to reach a goal, but in the long run it can become very expensive. From what I can see, it’s a line of thinking shared by many teams. This is a rather challenging weight gain compared to 2021, given all the changes and additions that will be made. We are discussing it with the FIA, because it is really an extremely complex challenge ”.
