In the auction of RM Sotheby’s called ‘Auburn Fall’, scheduled for September 2-5 in the city of Auburn, Indiana, there will also be a very special racing car. This is the Chevrolet Lumina of 1994 driven by Jeff Gordon in the Nascar championship, and therefore colored with the livery number 24, the historic number of the American driver.
The car, with engine number 2409 and chassis’ 15DM014 ′ very high figures could come up if the great fans of the stars and stripes championship take part in the auction. Dupont’s rainbow colors are among the most recognizable in American racing history, and after all Gordon helped make them legendary. During the 1994 vintage Gordon won the first two races of what became an extraordinary career: the Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway and the Brickyard 400 in Indianapolis. Two races of considerable media importance that led Gordon to finish the championship in eighth place in a season in which Dale Earnhardt triumphed.
Compared to a normal Lumina, this specimen is obviously very different in terms of trim and power. RM Sotheby’s has not yet provided data on the car or a basic valuation, but figures in the hundreds of thousands of dollars are assumed. After all, Gordon has won the championship four times.
