The National Directorate of Onemi delivered a balance on the situation of forest fires in Chile, indicating that 85 have been registered, of which 11 are in combat, 55 are controlled and 19 have been extinguished.
In the As of 7:00 p.m. this Friday, the national director(s), Mauricio Tapia, indicated that there are 11 fires in combat and 55 controlled, although not extinguished, and that in total they have consumed more than 8,000 hectares, mainly in the regions from Valparaíso, Metropolitan and Bío Bío.
In addition, Tapia indicated that two people have died due to the fires, one in Melipilla last week and another this Friday in Quilpué.

“Since the weekend we have had two deaths, one person in Melipilla and today a deceased person was found in Colliguay, but the cause is being investigated by the PDI,” Tapia said.
Likewise, it was indicated that there are 9 active red alerts in the country: Quilpué, Catemu, Villa Alemana and Santo Domingo (Valparaíso region); Curacaví, Lampa and San Pedro (Metropolitan region), Nacimiento, San Pedro de la Paz and Florida (Bío Bío).
Regarding the cloud of smoke that appeared this Friday morning in Santiago, Tapia indicated that it was similar to a winter day with poor ventilation, and that in the afternoon the air was at “normal levels”.
“The smoke scenario over the capital this morning could be assimilated to a winter day with poor ventilation conditions. They currently report to us that all the monitoring networks in the Metropolitan and Valparaíso regions show normal levels,” added Tapia.
In the same vein, the Minister of Health, Ximena Aguilera, indicated that it is probable that the Saturday morning again clouds with smoke at dawn.
“Considering that the fires continue to evolve and due to weather conditions, there is a chance that tomorrow morning we will dawn again with the clouds and the smell of smoke in the city, so the recommendations are maintained,” said Aguilera.
