President Luis Abinader informed This Monday that in the next few hours the first two tenders that have already been awarded for the supply of megawatts in new gas plants, including the one in Manzanillo, Montecristi, will be announced.

“Mi government launched in February 2021 an international public tender to install an 800 megawatt power plant and a gas storage and unloading terminal natural in Manzanillo, Montecristi; another emergency tender for 400 megawatts in December 2021 and the third tender for 800 megawatts of natural gas-based plants to be installed in different locations in the country” the president.

When giving his speech during the inauguration of the El Soco Photovoltaic Park project, he highlighted that a total of 2,000 new megawatts will be installed between 2022 and 2026 and reported that “the first two tenders have already been awarded and the details will be offered to the country in the next few hours”.

He also indicated that that in his management was installed and started the generation of the Estrella del Mar 3 (EDM3) plant with 142 megawatts using natural gas.

“No government had designed and launched a strategy for building electrical plants that provide the system with the capacity to satisfy demand and maintain a reserve in the face of any sudden outage. “There is only one or two floors undergoing maintenance or repair,” said the head of state.

About the project
