The EU Foreign Affairs Representative Josep Borrell has described the takeover of power by the militant Islamist Taliban in Afghanistan as a “catastrophe for the values and credibility of the West”.
Brussels – In front of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, the chief diplomat of the European Union spoke of a “nightmare” on Thursday. They failed to accompany the country on its way to a modern state.
According to Borrell, the first 106 of around 400 local Afghan workers who had worked for the EU have landed in Madrid. About 300 are still in Afghanistan. (dpa)
