Based on a recent study published in Lancet Oncology one in seven cases of cancer could relate to the moderate alcohol consumption, meaning by moderate 2 drinks a day. The studio casts an even more sinister light between the consumption of alcoholic beverages and the ability to develop tumors. 4 out of 100 diagnoses could be associated with alcohol consumption. The starting point is the awareness that alcohol is a toxic substance for the human body, capable of causing severe addiction and no beneficial effect on the body. But not only: the authors of the study hypothesize that alcohol consumption enhances the toxic effect of other substances, such as tobacco. Those who use alcohol and tobacco together would have the risk of developing cancer of the oral cavity, oropharyngeal, larynx and esophagus that is 30 times higher than normal. “These data are frightening and absolutely must make us reflect – denounces the national president of Codacons, Marco Donzelli – because consumers, especially younger ones, still lack awareness of the risks related to alcohol consumption, which instead already exists with regard to tobacco consumption. For this reason we will ask the PAs for the possibility of carrying out, together, information campaigns aimed at citizens, especially young people, trying to develop a better awareness of the risks that are run by drinking certain substances. As always, being informed must be the top priority. “
