Combat helicopter Ka-52 “Alligator” escorted a convoy of the Armed Forces (AF) of Russia and Turkey during a joint patrol in the security zone in northern Syria. It is reported by Telegram-channel “Military Observer”.
According to the channel, the Ka-52 is rarely used for combat support of such events. Usually, the Mi-35 transport and combat helicopter and the multipurpose Mi-8AMTSh helicopter, which was also present this time, are used for this. These types of helicopters are based at the regional base of the Russian Armed Forces in El-Kamyshlo.
It is assumed that the appearance of a shock “Alligator” on patrol may indicate the transfer of this type of equipment to the same place.
Earlier, at the Et-Tabka airbase in the Syrian province of Raqqa, which the US military left in 2019, helicopters of the Russian Aerospace Forces noticed. Judging by the published footage, Mi-8AMTSh and Ka-52 Alligator helicopters are deployed at the base.

In March 2020, the presidents of Russia Vladimir Putin and Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, agreed on a ceasefire in Syria. An agreement was concluded according to which a ceasefire entered into force in the Idlib de-escalation zone. The reason was a sharp exacerbation of the situation in the region and a large-scale offensive by the Syrian army against the positions of the armed opposition and terrorists.
The Syrian civil war began in March 2011. The main participants in the conflict are government forces on the side of President Bashar al-Assad, the so-called moderate opposition and Islamist groups. The opposition is supported by Turkey, Russia is helping the Assad government.
