At the end of a Belgian Grand Prix that has never really been raced, but after which a final classification has been decreed, even the team’s drivers Alpine they expressed their regret for what happened in the rain di Spa-Francorchamps. With a seventh and an 11th place, obtained respectively by Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso, the standard bearers of the French team are now concentrating on the next round in the Netherlands, leaving the Ardennes with a halved score.
A sense of general disappointment expressed primarily by the French driver, who wanted to confirm himself in Belgium after the incredible victory obtained in Hungary: “First of all – explained Ocon – I’m sorry for all viewers. I thank them for their patience and their enthusiasm, despite having waited all afternoon to see some action. Unfortunately, it was not possible today due to the rain, with safety being a priority. The correct decision was to stop the race, so vcredited the FIA and Michael Masi for doing their best to the end. The conditions were really tough, especially due to the lack of visibility. Today we take home three points, and we look to Zandvoort with the hope of meeting a better time ”.
His teammate Alonso also shares the same opinion, who in Belgium would have liked to celebrate his renewal with Alpine for 2022 in a different way: “Given the conditions – commented the Asturian – stopping the race was the correct decision. However, very strange points were awarded. It cannot be defined as a ‘race’ a race almost always under the red flag and with only a few laps spent behind the Safety Car. It was no one’s fault, everyone tried to do their duty, but it’s a shame. Despite everything, the spectators were extraordinary all weekend, and it was nice to see them even in this weather ”.
