The current period is characterized by the possibility of making choices. Even quite big choices when it comes to cars, because it is true that everything can be solved, but it is not a matter of minutes to switch from endothermic cars, driven for years and with consolidated habits, to electric ones. You don’t learn how to handle a mysterious object in the blink of a click, although after a certain period of driving and proper energy planning the battery-powered car can become a habit like any other. Not to mention that the transition is an economic fact: you have to put your hand in your wallet.
The choice is even more difficult if you think that to date it is not possible to predict how much the electric revolution will take root in the next five years and what will happen in tenbeyond the end of the warranty period of the battery to be recharged. In particular, those who want to stay in the endothermic may find themselves having to change cars compulsorily in the future, and maybe at that time it will not be possible to take advantage of an incentive like now. As often happens in human activities, so linked above all to today and little to the future, there does not seem to be a great global planning.
According to Massimo Ghenzer, founder of the consulting firm Areté Methodos, we need more clarity on the part of politics. So he wrote in the Corriere dello Sport: “In a fluid picture, the consumer would need a contribution of stability rather than uncertainties. The mobility sector has seen a lot in recent times and the situation, for consumers themselves, has been complicated by policy makers. Am I changing my car or not? Can I still buy these petrol and diesel cars, forgotten by advertising and attacked as pollutants, or is it better not because their value could be zero over time? The same hybrids, which remain the smartest and most pragmatic solution, are now being questioned. Are electric cars, the queens of communication in recent times, really affordable and manageable without refueling problems or is it better to wait? Perhaps the wisest thing is to continue with the old car as the quality has increased. Incentives, however, offer a unique opportunity. No one expects the political decision maker to have the magic wand, they only ask that someone show the way to go to facilitate the decision-making processes of consumers. Announcements of bans on known models should be avoided, especially if it is not explained what to do to adapt to the new type of mobility, which is still unclear. To change, it is necessary to verify economic sustainability and explain it, so as to avoid more serious problems“.
