“He made a mistake, I gave him space“. This is the opinion of Carlos Sainz regarding the contact with George Russell (here his version) at Brooklands, the braking of Curva-6 to the left at the end of the Wellington straight. The English Williams driver pulled away on the inside going to hit the Ferrari driver, who was forced to widen and thus finish in 18th position.
The Williams driver was punished with three penalty positions on the starting grid of the British Grand Prix which will see him start from twelfth place in the sixth row after finishing in ninth place in today’s Sprint Qualifying. Benefiting from the penalty of Russell Esteban Ocon, Carlos Sainz and Pierre Gasly.
