Miguel Ángel Alarcón, official of the 62nd Police Station of San Bernardo, was the co-pilot of a wrecked vehicle this Wednesday morning in the El Panul sector. The driver -a civilian- was arrested, while the Coquimbo Prosecutor’s Office investigates the circumstances of the event.
A serious traffic accident occurred on Wednesday morning in the El Panul sector, in the commune of Coquimbo, where a carabinero lost his life.
It was a truck with two occupants, whose co-pilot lost his life as a result of serious injuries while being treated at the Hospital San Pablo.
According to the information provided by Major Sandoval of the 2nd Coquimbo Police Station, the driver lost control of the vehicle, overturning on the rocks on the road and causing both occupants to be ejected.
The fatal victim was identified as Miguel Ángel Alarcón, who, as confirmed by Carabineros, is an official of the 62nd San Bernardo Police Station and was using his medical license the day of the events.
According to information collected by El Día, from the uniformed institution they also recognized that “the damaged vehicle had an order for theft, a situation for which all the necessary information to establish the facts has been made available to the Public Ministry.”
On the other hand, they stated that the driver of the truck is not a police officer and was arrested for his alleged responsibility in the crime of traffic accident resulting in death.
The Prosecutor, Freddy Salinas, indicated that “in principle, what is known is that the vehicle was traveling from south to north”.
“The origin of the journey is a matter of investigation and will have to be determined together with the other proceedings ordered by the Public Ministry”, said Salinas.
Along with this, the persecutor also reported that the driver of the cell phone is in serious condition.
Finally, Carabineros indicated that the institution “reiterates its commitment to transparency and opportunity to determine administrative responsibilities of the fact that is being investigated, all of which will be informed in a timely manner to the investigating entity.”
