President Xi Jinping triumphantly celebrated the “irreversible” rise of China, once colonized and now a world power, in a speech that marked the centenary of the Communist Party in power this Thursday.
“The time when the Chinese people could be trampled and oppressed is gone forever!” declared Xi Jinping from the Tiananmen Gate, from where his distant predecessor Mao Zedong proclaimed the People’s Republic in 1949.
