McGregor will face Pacquiao in the ring

The rumor had started to spread some time ago, but this Friday it was confirmed by one of its own protagonists. Former UFC champion Conor McGregor confirmed that he will face a legend of the discipline such as the Filipino Manny Pacquiao in a boxing match. This will be the second great fight for the Irishman after having lost in the contest against the American Floyd Mayweather in 2017.

“I will box Manny Pacquiao soon in the Middle East,” McGregor wrote on his Twitter account, putting an end to speculation and confirming – no date yet – the big event against the 41-year-old fighter. Then he added: “It will be a real honor to have faced two of the greatest boxers of the modern era.” The specialized press assured that the event could be between December 2020 and January 2021.

Last June, the Irishman had announced his retirement from the UFC . His last fight in the most important mixed martial arts company had been in January of this year, when he defeated the American Donald Cerrone in a fight that lasted only 40 seconds at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

It is worth remembering that a few weeks ago Pacquiao’s trainer, Justin Fortune , had spoken out against the possibility of holding the fight between his pupil and the former UFC champion. “ Why would we help that guy get rich? (The match) will do nothing for Pacquiao in regards to his legacy, “he said. In that sense, he added: “It would be very unfair for the fans to see Pacquiao facing McGregor. Why destroy your legacy for a hobo like McGregor? Manny would destroy him in three rounds. He would do it too fast and too strong, like the amazing fighter that he is. ”

The last time the Filipino stepped into a ring was more than a year ago. In July 2019 he defeated American Keith Thurman in a split decision at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and reached a record of 62 wins (39KO), 7 losses and 2 draws. After that contest, many thought his next step would be to bring Floyd Mayweather out of retirement to stage one of the most anticipated fights of all time. However, it seems that in the future of Pac-Man McGregor appears first.

This will be the 32-year-old Irishman’s second experience in boxing, following the experience against Money in 2017 (he lost by knockout in the 10th round). Can you reap a better result this time?
