Russia registered 820 deaths due to the coronavirus on Thursday, the highest daily balance in the country since the start of the pandemic, according to official government figures.
The presence of the more contagious delta variant of the virus, the low acceptance of vaccines in the country and the absence of movement restrictions contribute to this situation.

In total and according to government figures, Russia has more than 179 thousand deaths from coronavirus, the highest figure in Europe.
However, this number only takes into account the deceased who have undergone an autopsy that has determined that the coronavirus is the main cause of their death.
The Russian statistics agency Rosstat estimated that the deaths from COVID-19 in the country exceeded 300,000 at the end of June 2021.
Despite the insistent calls from the authorities, the vaccination campaign against covid-19 is progressing slowly due to the reluctance of the population to inoculate.
