07.00 am – WHO: 80% vaccines globally administered in developed countries – About 80% of the 5.5 billion doses of Covid-19 vaccines administered globally ended up in high-income countries. The director general of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said today at a press conference. “We’ve heard excuses from manufacturers and some high-income countries about how low-income countries can’t absorb vaccines,” Tedros said. “Because producers prioritized or were legally obliged to abide by bilateral agreements with rich countries willing to pay more, low-income countries were deprived of the tools to protect their people.”

Bulletin: 5,923 new cases and 69 deaths, positivity rate rises to 2% – In Italy, 5,923 new cases of Covid-19 and 69 deaths of people infected with the virus were recorded, compared to 4,720 new infections and 71 deaths reported yesterday. WHO, Delta variant in 174 countries, 4 more in 7 days – Globally, cases of the Delta variant of Sars-CoV-2 have been reported in 174 countries. This is underlined by the weekly report of the World Health Organization (WHO), relating to the week 30 August-5 September. Compared to the previous 7 days, there are 4 more countries where the Delta variant is present.
Prisons, Covid cases down slightly: 70 positive inmates – There are 70 inmates currently positive for Covid: a figure slightly down compared to last week, when 80 cases of positivity were registered, out of a total of 52,593 inmates in Italian prisons. This was stated in the report published today (with data updated last night) by the Ministry of Justice on the coronavirus in prisons, according to which in the last week there have been 14 new positives. Among the agents, however, out of a total of 36,939 in service, the positives at Covid are 112, compared to 114 recorded last week.
