Covid, Iss: “Most new infections in unvaccinated”

Most of the infections reported in Italy were identified in the last 14 days in unvaccinated subjects who did not receive any dose of SARS-CoV-2 vaccine or who were vaccinated with the first dose or single-dose vaccine within 14 days of diagnosis itself, i.e. before the time it takes to develop a complete immune response to the vaccine. This is what emerges from a report by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità.

Specifically, in the 80+ age group, in the last 14 days, 35% of SARS-COV-2 diagnoses, 59% of hospitalizations, 78% of ICU admissions and 70% of deaths were occurring in people who have not received any vaccine doses and are currently 8% of the population in this age group. In most of the cases reported in the last two weeks, the diagnostic assessment was motivated by the presence of symptoms or following contact tracing.
