What will autumn be like in Italy struggling with covid? “Quiet, perhaps with limited red areas”. So the virologist Fabrizio Pregliasco, lecturer at the State University of Milan, looks forward to the coming season at Adnkronos Salute. “There should be the necessary attention, targeted as much as possible. Covid – recalls Pregliasco – what it taught us to do is to be very careful and manage things as quickly as possible”.
“I believe that things are moving. It seems to me that there is good attention and I believe that in the short term we will have a greater ability to manage it”, he explains then on the tracing and sequencing of the virus in Italy. While now, he says on the opinions on the role of scientists during the pandemic, “we virologists, and that’s okay with me, are the lightning rod and the outlet for all the suffering”. “There is – adds the virologist with resignation -. At least a culprit has been identified” of the discomfort linked to the restrictions.
And on the decision of the United Kingdom to reopen everything from next July 19 despite the increase in infections related to the Delta variant of Sars-CoV-2, “it is a political choice”, says the virologist. “It is always a problem of balance on aspects that – notes the expert heard by Adnkronos Salute – can be heavy compared to a lockdown that hurts”.
