But while Shrek hasn’t left his swamp for more than a decade now, other cast members are counting on it. ;to be back this year in Puss in Boots 2: The Final Quest, scheduled for next December. But in an interview for GQ, Myers shared; his love for the character of Shrek, as well as an idea to revive the franchise:
“I liked the idea of taking a fairy tale and turning it into a movie. upside down, and make all traditional bad guys be good guys, and all traditional good guys be bad guys. And I realized that it was a dramatic role. À half movie, I thought, “There’s an emotional center here. You know the old joke, ‘I wouldn’t want to be a member of a club that would accept me as a member?’ I’ve always felt. The concept of going from a self-loathing ogre to a self-accepting ogre was meaningful to me. I love playing Shrek. If I were to do one Shrek a year, I would love to.“
