Next weekend, the 37th edition of the European Heritage Days will be held under special conditions.
In 1984, the Minister of Culture, Mr. Jack Lang , organized the first “ Open Day in Historic Monuments ”. The French quickly appropriated this event, which invited them to reclaim their heritage. Over the years, this annual meeting between citizens and the vestiges of their past evolved, from one to two days and then beyond the borders of France.
Since 1991, this 3rd weekend of September has changed its name to become “European Heritage Days”, bringing together more than 50 countries.
Education, theme of this special 2020 edition
On September 19 and 20, this 37th edition will be under the theme ” Heritage and education: learning for life!” “. And the day before the official launch, the “ Lift your eyes! » Will be organized for the second consecutive year, to invite school children, from kindergarten to high school, to discover this heritage in all its forms.
Will the French be there for this 2020 edition? They were more than 12 million in previous editions . Health rules will be strictly observed during these two heritage days, and the program of the event favors visits in small groups and distance.
On the other hand, by favoring holidays in France, the French have (re) discovered their local heritage during this summer 2020, and these Heritage Days are an opportunity to extend this rediscovery, even if it will be necessary to move masked. But with more than 44,000 historical monuments, France has no shortage of assets, so that the 2020 edition still knows a nice popular success.
