Respecting individual liberties and having a link with social movements are part of the characteristics that candidates should have candidates for the Constitutional Council, as the parties begin to define. If the schedule of the process is not modified again, the election of its members would be set for May 7, 2023.
The parties are already beginning to prepare names to form the Constitutional Council, the body that will be in charge of drafting a new Fundamental Charter.
It should be remembered that the project that gives rise to this new process has already been dispatched by the Senate’s Constitution Committee, so it will now have to be voted on in Chamber.
Then, the Chamber of Deputies will be in charge of reviewing the initiative, which was achieved through a broad agreement that went from the UDI to the Communist Party.

Deputy Marcos Ilabaca (PS) expressed his full support for each of the articles established in the reform project.
The parliamentarian indicated that a Constitution is required to face the coming decades. In this sense, he expressed that “the Fundamental Charter requires the greatest possible support”.
According to what was approved by the Senate Constitution committee, the election of constitutional councilors would be on May 7, 2023.
Characteristics of candidates for the Constitutional Council
The head of the bench of deputies of the DC, Eric Aedo, pointed out that the candidates that will present from his party must defend democracy, individual freedoms, the freedom of parents to choose the education of their children and religious freedom.
“It is necessary to have a community spirit in this Constitution, that we are capable of defending social rights that are essential today”, he explained.
On the other hand, the deputy Andrés Giordano, independent of the Broad Front, emphasized the importance of the social bond that those who make up the drafting body should have.
“We are interested in having people who represent organized sectors or who have trusted ties with social movements”, he said.
If the Senate and the Chamber do not modify the schedule , the exit plebiscite would be defined for December 17 of next year.
