The former president of the Central Bank of Brazil, Ilan Goldfajn, prevailed with nearly 80% of the votes .
The candidate proposed by the Government of Chile to preside over the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Nicolás Eyzaguirre, was not elected.
In his place was chosen the Brazilian Ilan Goldfajn, former president of the Central Bank of his country.
Let us remember that Eyzaguirre had been officially presented as the Government’s candidate on November 3.

On that occasion, the minister Minister of the Treasury, Mario Marcel, highlighted Eyzaguirre’s qualities and professional career, emphasizing his experience in public policies.
The new president of the IDB
The IDB reported Goldfajn’s triumph this Sunday, after having obtained sufficient support from the Board of Governors of the organization.
The finance ministers and other economic authorities of the 48 countries that make up the IDB gave their support to the Brazilian, by a large majority .
Through a statement, the IDB explained that the vote was carried out at a meeting held at the bank’s headquarters in Washington, with the virtual or face-to-face assistance of the delegations.
Although the votes have not been made public, according to information from our partner media outlet EFE, Goldfajn obtained the support of at least least 80% of the participants in the Assembly of Governors.
