Former Convention member Fernando Atria referred again to the result of the plebiscite, assuring that the content of the constitutional proposal was not rejected.
In conversation with La Tercera, he pointed out that “I do not believe that the rejection of the new Constitution was a rejection of the content of the proposal. People still want social rights, that the political system can be more effective in processing social demands and protecting them from abuses”.
“So I don’t it seems that the result of the plebiscite should lead us to revise the diagnosis that the people wanted a different Constitution,” he added.

Atria says that new process “is more difficult”
When asked if the Rejection showed that people want something else, he stated that one should not “overinterpret” what happened on September 4. “What there was was a rejection of the work of the Convention, not a new Constitution. That is still fully in force, & # 8221 ;, the lawyer said.

“The agreement of November 15 was celebrated as the construction of a way out of a deep crisis. That path proved to be a dead end. It led nowhere”, he added.
