Dubai – Yasmine El Tohamy – Former Al Ahly head coach Mohamed Youssef has talked about Pitso Mosimane’s appointment and how his experience helped the Red Devils.
Mosimane was appointed by Al Ahly in October and managed to guide them to a season treble for the third time in the club’s history.
A 2-1 win over Zamalek in a historic CAF Champions League final in November followed by a victory against Tala’a El-Gaish in the Egypt Cup a week later completed their treble last season.
The 56-year-old also kicked-off Al Ahly’s new Egyptian Premier League season with a 3-1 win against Misr El-Makkasa before contracting COVID-19.
Mohamed Youssef talked about Mosimane’s appointment and also says that there is more to come from the South African coach.
“[Pitso] Mosimane saved Al Ahly time when the club wanted to sign a coach at a critical time, a coach who knows his rivals well in the CAF Champions League, including Zamalek, Raja and Wydad,” Youssef told ON Time Sports.
“Any manager would be honoured to coach Al Ahly and Mosimane still has a lot to offer to the team,” he added.
Following the departure of Rene Weiler two months ago, Youssef was rumoured to be among the candidates for the Al Ahly job.
He refuted the rumours, saying: “It’s an honour to be linked with Al Ahly but no one contacted me regarding the vacant head coach job.”
Youssef is currently the head coach of newly-promoted Egyptian Premier League side Bank Al Ahly, who are currently seventh after picking up four points from their three opening games.
