Four migrants die in road accident in southern Mexico

Four migrants died and 16 others were injured in a road accident on Saturday night in the state of Chiapas, in southern Mérida. Mexico, authorities reported this Sunday.

The accident happened near the municipality of San Juan Chamula, on a route used by human traffickers to evade immigration checks. The migrants were traveling in a pickup truck. 

“In the At the scene of the events there were four males with no vital signs and initially 16 people of different nationalities were injured, the prosecution said in a statement. that of the wounded, 9 are from Honduras, 4 from Guatemala, one from Ecuador, one from Nicaragua and another person who entered the country. to the hospital as an unknown. 

However, he did not detail the nationalities of the deceased. 

“The prosecutor of the Investigating Public Ministry is carrying out the corresponding procedures,” he added.

Dozens of migrants from Central America and other countries cross Mexico daily with the intention of reaching the United States. However, along the way they are exposed to accidents and to being victims of organized crime or of the Mexican immigration authorities themselves.
