The IAA Mobility 2021 opens its doors, now we are. Lovers of traditional motor shows are eagerly awaiting the moment when Chancellor Angela Merkel this afternoon will cut the ribbon of the Monaco Motor Show, which will remain open to the public from 7 to 12 September. In an atmosphere of great positivity, dictated precisely by the return to Europe of a large fair dedicated to the world of engines that can be visited in person, there are some out of tune notes, represented by the absence of some important brands and by the increasingly frequent and convinced insurrection of environmental associations.
Two issues that throw great uncertainty on the outcome of the event, in which many iconic brands will still take part and will reveal their next steps in terms of electrification of the range. As recalled by today’s edition of Repubblica, BMW will exhibit a series of green models: ranging from the battery-powered iX to the fully electrified range, from the hydrogen hX5 to the clean micro-mobility proposals, up to the Vision study for a flagship of the future. Mercedes instead it will bring with it eight new models, almost all electric or electrified: ranging from the concept of the Smart micro SUV to the 843 HP AMG GT 63 SE Performance, passing through the EQE and the Maybach. Then there is also Volkswagen, which in addition to anticipating the ID.5 GTX will show with two concepts the technological sophistication respectively according to Audi and Porsche and the electric future of Cupra with the Born EV.
But there will of course also be non-German car brands at the IAA Mobility 2021. It is the case of Renault, with the new 100% electric Megane which will be joined by the prototype of the future battery-powered 5, the new Dacia Jogger and the proposal for an “electric service sedan” branded Mobilize Limo. Electric but not only for the Asian car manufacturers, who will mix the new battery-powered proposals with traditional models: let’s think of the minivan Hyundai Staria or KIA Sportage, even with plug-in hybrid engines. The overview is closed by the Geely group, which offers two novelties, and the giant Great Wall Motors, which introduces the new Way brands, dedicated to the high-end range, and ORA, to the more accessible electric mobility, on the European market.
