In the Italian electric car market, during the month of June, Tesla beat Fiat. There were very few units of difference in terms of registration between Tesla Model 3 and Fiat 500, 984 cars sold against 955. The two models dragged the electric segment to a good 4.7% monthly (7,025 units) on the total of new cars registered in Italy.
Tesla has not been at the top of the ranking since the beginning of 2021, commanded precisely by the Fiat 500; however it cannot be denied that it was a positive month for the American brand, able to regulate in addition to the small Italian also Renault Twingo, Dacia Spring and Smart Fortwo. In particular Twingo and Fortwo are still in the top 3 January-June; while Spring is starting to gain some following.
In June, the Italian car market continued to decline
Volkswagen ID.3 was placed in the rest of the monthly top ten, with more than two hundred units behind the Fortwo; then Renault Zoe, Peugeot 208 and 2008 and Nissan Leaf. Since the beginning of the year, over 30,300 full electric cars have been sold in Italy: the numbers are starting to be full-bodied and are paired with the almost 38,000 units of plug-in hybrid. A segment, moreover, dominated this month by Jeep Compass 4xe, able to overcome the psychological barrier of 1000 units sold in 30 days. Compass is always the annual leader, ahead of Volvo XC40 and Jeep Renegade. Also noteworthy is the good performance of Cupra Formentor, which exceeds 420 units sold in June.

Returning to Tesla, it’s a good time: sales percentages in June were positive compared to previous months, and the market share in Italy is close to that currently maintained, throughout 2021, by Porsche and Honda. In absolute terms, in the month that marks the middle of the year, Tesla also beat a brand like Land Rover: now for the Elon Musk house the goal is at least to maintain these figures without producing a month-over-month swing effect.
