Even if compared to 2020 there is a timid recovery, the Italian car market is not yet proving to be up to the pre-Covi periodd. In fact, compared to 2019 there was a 13.3% decline in registrations of new cars, 149,438 units against 172,300, while in relation to 2020 the increase was only 12%: everyone hoped and perhaps expected that it would be a more substantial increase.
In the first half of 2021, according to the data summary published monthly by Unrae, the loss compared to the same period in 2019 is approximately 200,000 units (with 884,750 overall registrations), leaving out the lower figure of 2020.
Long-term rental with + 8.5% is the only growing channel, with a share rising to 19.5% in the month, while short-term rental loses 28.6% of registered volumes. Among the increasingly declining power supplies, petrol and diesel, which stop in June at 30.3% and 22.4% of share respectively; LPG and methane rose slightly, at 8.2% and 2.4% in the month. Strong advance for electrified cars: hybrids (HEVs) confirmed their share of 27.4% in June, in line with the first half of the year, while both electric and plug-in cars reached 4.7% (3.4% and 4.3% respectively in January-June). Also this month the rental contributes positively to the share of diesel and Plug-in, net of which they would drop to 18.7% and 3.4%.

Even the second-hand market in June it closed down by 5.8% on 2019 with 304,025 changes of ownership gross of mini-revolutions. The first half of the year records a decline of 18.6% compared to 2019.
