The poorest citizens of Spain, where authorities are struggling with the epidemic of the coronavirus, will receive from the state an unconditional basic income. So, alone the Spaniards will be paid for 462 euros per month (about 14 000 hryvnia), for the family — up to 1 015 euros (almost 30 UAH 500), reports the Chronicle.info with reference to Country.
This decision was taken by the government of Spain on 29 may.
It is reported that these payments will be able to claim the Spaniards from 23 to 65 years old whose income per year does not exceed 16 614 Euro per year taking into account payments on housing and consumer loans. The initiative will apply to 850,000 households, which are home to 2.3 million citizens.
“Well, if we can help these households to improve their situation,” — said the Minister of social security josé Luis escrivá. He noted that funding for this program will cost 3 billion euros per year. Thus, the expenditure of the nation to combat poverty would increase from 0.1% to 0.4% of GDP.
It is worth noting that in Spain, about 21.6% of the population live on the verge of poverty. The third figure among the EU countries, whereas overall in the Eurozone it is around 17%.
Recall that according to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, the salary of 5,000-6,000 hryvnia is not an indicator of poverty.
