The Azzurri surpass the reigning vice champions and are already certain of first place in the group
Azzurri unleashed in the European Championship. Fourth consecutive victory for De Giorgi’s young team who are already certain of first place in the group thanks to a success against strong Slovenia. A wall by Galassi gives the Azzurri much more than victory. But a new perspective in this European. Italy starts suffering against Alberto Giuliani’s team. It also goes down by 4 points in the first set against the reigning European vice champions (two years ago silver in Paris behind Serbia), dragged by Stern and Urnaut. But Italy recovers one point at a time, always remaining hooked to the opponents, leaning on the game of its spikers Lavia and Michieletto. At the end of the first set Romanò takes the place of Pinali and Italy, thanks to an invasion of Slovenia (on an attack by Michieletto), wins the first set in a sprint. Super start of Italy in the second which, thanks to the beats of Michieletto, goes to 6-1 in his favor but shortly after it turns into a terrible 8-9 for Slovenia with Urnaut and Cebulj on the shields (all Slovenians have a past in our league). The change in direction of Giuliani has produced some effect, but Italy is not demoralized and mended the tear again takes the lead (16-14). The set runs on the wire, but the Azzurri have something more and in the moment they tear the 2-0; a result that already at this point could be enough for Italy.
Romanò in the field
–
Third set still point to point with Italy still playing with Romanò on the pitch (never a season in A-1 for him), while Giuliani fielded Mozic, the young Slovenian star who will play in Verona next season. Italy wasted a break (also because Slovenia pulled the serve in full fire), but returned to the advantage and went to take the set and the game that gave a turning point to the tournament; tomorrow evening at 7 pm the Azzurri for the last match of the group against the hosts of the Czech Republic, but already being able to think of the round of 16, where the Azzurri will find the fourth of group D (one between Slovakia, Slovenia and Estonia).
